After the world’s first automobile fatality in London in 1896, the coroner reportedly said, “This must never happen again.”

Yet more than a century later, over 25 million lives have been lost globally in road crashes, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Despite remarkable advances in vehicle safety technology, the global road toll continues to rise. Each year, nearly 1.2 million people lose their lives on the world’s roads—a number projected to increase by 65%, as per a joint report by the WHO and World Bank.

Road crashes are now the leading cause of death among people aged 3 to 33, says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). What makes this even more tragic is that the majority of these deaths are entirely preventable—caused not by mechanical failure or natural disasters, but by human choices.

The top causes of fatal crashes include:

  • Distracted Driving

  • Driver Fatigue

  • Drunk Driving

  • Speeding

  • Aggressive Driving

  • Adverse Weather Conditions

At Road Guru Trust, we believe change begins with awareness and responsibility. Our vision is bold but urgent.

To push India to the bottom of the global list in road accident fatalities.
We work every day to ensure that no life is lost to carelessness, and that our roads become safer for all — one driver, one decision at a time.
